Die beiden Leader - Perla und Alias - spielten schon vor Jahren als Begleiter von Nina Simone zusammen. In ihren ansehnlichen Diskografien finden sich illustre Namen wie Sonny Rollins, Tony Williams, Chick Corea, Weather Report usw. Alias mischte z.B. mit bei Miles "Bitches Brew" und für Perla war längere Zeit bei Elvin Jones in der Band. Beide teilen seit langem eine starke Beziehung auch zu Rock und Latin Music. Mit der Gründung der "Stone Alliance" (1976) ging es den beiden denn auch besonders um eine Fusion aller dieser Stile, ein Ziel, das mit wechselnden Besetzungen angestrebt wird. Seit 1979 wird der steinerne Verbund vervollständigt durch die jüngeren Solisten Mintzer (zur Zeiz auch bei Carl Ratzer) und Kirkland. Besonders die Bassklarinette bringt einen besonderen ins ganze. Kirkland verdiente besonders bei Michal Urbaniak die Sporen ab, erweisst sich aber auch als versierter Pianist (u.a. bei M. Vitous).

The two leaders - Perla and Alias - played together years ago as Nina Simone's accompanists. Their impressive discographies include illustrious names such as Sonny Rollins, Tony Williams, Chick Corea, Weather Report etc. Alias played on Miles' "Bitches Brew", for example, and Perla was in the band with Elvin Jones for a long time. Both have long shared a strong relationship with rock and Latin music. With the founding of the "Stone Alliance" (1976), the two were particularly interested in a fusion of all these styles, a goal that is pursued with changing line-ups. Since 1979, the Stone Alliance has been completed by the younger soloists Mintzer (currently also with Carl Ratzer) and Kirkland. The bass clarinet in particular brings a special touch to the whole. Kirkland earned his spurs with Michal Urbaniak in particular, but also proves to be an accomplished pianist (with M. Vitous, among others).
